With this issue, we will start our new schedule of publishing at approximately two-week intervals. Personal demands prevent us from publishing more frequently.
We try to provide a significant number of diverse articles that should enable readers to easily follow threads to other sources and topics. The idea behind our little journal is to encourage people to read more, to broaden their reading into new topical areas and then to take action.
The best action one can take is obviously to vote responsibly. The next most important action is to write to your representatives in Congress. I do not mean sending e-mails or signing petitions. I mean writing real letters on your own stationary conveying your personal feelings to your Senators and Representatives. Personal letters get attention. I urge you to form writing groups and to flood congress with mail, real mail.
Former U.S. Representative Paul Findley’s article (Seek Justice, Only Justice) about the Israeli Lobby in America which can be found in Sam Bahour’s section in Participating Authors, should motivate Jewish readers who are aware of what Israel is doing to Palestinians to write some long, heartfelt letters to their congresspeople. Those folks in Washington are beholden to you, friends, not to the government of Israel or to the right-wing Jewish lobby that holds our congress in thrall. Be articulate, people, and remember, you are seeking Justice, only Justice.
Go forth and do some good in the world. Become a spokesperson for human rights and religious freedom. It’s your country. Take it back!
