I'm a novelist, writer and film-maker living in Vancouver BC, but I'm also proud to have been involved with The Studio with my wife Brenda Carr (who founded it) for almost 19 years. The Studio is a program that assists Vancouver-area street-youth. It's an art program, but also provides food, counseling, assistance with finding housing, jobs, re-entry into school, alcohol and drug intervention, referrals to mental health resources, whatever it takes to help repair lives. We've seen approximately 10-12,000 youth, with a positive outcome in almost every case- sometimes it's just offering a sandwich, other times it's life and death.
