This site reflects some of our concerns about what is going on in the world about us and in our own country.

We have a strong sense that all is not right in America. We are becoming a nation divided, rather than One Nation Indivisible. Freedom and Justice for All has become a meaningless slogan as the Executive branch of our government moves to restrict our liberties and in the process violates the ethical principles of our legal and judicial systems. The judicial system has itself become politicized.

We have become an aggressor nation, ignoring our own and international laws and have almost completely abandoned our former role as a model of democracy the world over, flawed though our pursuit of that role has been at times.

Some of our most important and sacred institutions are failing or have already failed. Our education system is in shambles as politicians have increasingly assumed the role of educators. Our economic system has become primarily a means of enhancing the rich few at the expense of the needy many. Our health system is deteriorating rapidly; millions of our citizens are experiencing life-threatening health situations in this supposed "Land of Plenty." Our infrastructure is falling apart at an alarming rate as our taxes are being used more than ever to pay for undeclared wars and inflated Halliburton contracts instead of for maintaining our schools, libraries, roads, bridges and public buildings. Our environment is becoming more polluted as the government continues an untiring attack on laws previously passed to preserve our land. America The Beautiful is becoming America the De-forested, America the Strip-Mined, America the Paved-Over. And, with few exceptions, the news media, including both newspapers and television, has become an extension of government spin, parroting back to us only what they want us to know.

Fiat Lux -"Let There Be Light"- originated in our belief that democracy functions best when citizens are well informed and leaders and representatives in government are honest and open.

With regard to information, we aim to provide information and opinion that we think is not generally available to the ordinary thinking citizen. In ten or twelve archives on different topics, we enable you to go back a year or more and read forward in time to see in orderly fashion just what has gone on in those areas. We believe that if you do the hard work of reading the archives from the earliest dates to the most recent, you will get a clearer understanding of selected domestic and foreign events than you can get from reading your daily paper or viewing television.

With regard to an honest and open government, we believe that problem can be solved only at the ballot box. As you read the articles on this site, it may become apparent that we are not very enchanted by the Bush administration. We have come to this position by reading all of our archives and more and trying to objectively evaluate what has been going on. Truthfully, we have found it to be a sad undertaking because it indicates that America is on a downward spiral in almost all aspects of what most people think of as the basic values of life.

Without further word, we share our information with you hoping that in your quest to become a more informed citizen, you will persist in the extensive reading and thinking and evaluating required of you. We caution you at the outset that this should not be your only source of news and opinion. We urge you to continue to read your newspapers and periodicals and watch television media and to use Fiat Lux to seek other points of view not so readily available to you. In other words, read all sides of each question or problem area and make up your own mind.
